Mission

Mission

To build a public facility that promotes the improvement of the health and fitness of our community through racquet sports with education, recreation and competition.

This will be a public facility with a limited membership.

A major focus of the Nevada Indoor Pickleball  board and staff will be philanthropic programs, lessons, clinics and events for children and adults from all ages, backgrounds, life challenges and economic status utilizing existing programs, educational institutions, organizations when available and creating new programs to fill the needs of the Reno and surrounding community.

About

About

The Nevada Indoor Pickleball  facility will provide a public facility that is needed to build strong year-round Pickleball programs.  It will also provide recreational opportunities for organizations like Boys and Girls Club and promote economic development.

It will be constructed on Washoe County owned property located in an undeveloped portion of the Washoe County Golf Course.  The specific location of the proposed facility is an undeveloped portion of the golf course that lies between hole 6 to the north and hole 7 to the west and south.

Forty-two additional parking spaces will be added to the south of the existing Reno Tennis Center - Washoe County outdoor tennis court parking lot.

Access to the Nevada Indoor Pickleball facility will be from Plumas Street.   Pedestrian access will be through the existing outdoor public tennis court walkways.

Improvements will include a Clubhouse and 20 indoor Pickleball courts.

The club house will include women's and men's restrooms, racket restringing services, retail sales of racket sport related items and the sale of snacks and drinks, to include beer and wine which will add a significant amenity to the existing outdoor courts.

Support

Why Support the Cause?

The Reno and surrounding area has a need and demand for public indoor Pickleball facilities.

Currently, there are no such facilities in the Reno area.

Weather
The Reno-Tahoe area’s weather is not conducive to year round outdoor Pickleball.

  • 40 – 60% of the year, outdoor Pickleball play is reduced significantly due to  wind, rain / snow,
cold temperatures (below 40 degrees)  and excessive heat (above 90 degrees)

  • Indoor play would alleviate sun exposure, reducing the risk of skin damage and cancer

  • Learning progression and retention of Pickleball is greatly hindered by interruption of play due to weather

Education
Educational institutions would have the opportunity to create year round programs. Our staff and Board of Directors are committed to supporting and creating more Pickleball opportunities for our community.

  • Learning and developmental skills provided by the sport of Pickleball are beneficial in all age groups

  • Educational programs for preschool, kindergarten and grammar schools are fun for children while teaching valuable skills sets

  • After school and non-profit Pickleball programs would be greatly enhanced with more programs

  • Newly developed and existing Philanthropic opportunities could thrive with year round Pickleball programs

  • Expansion and retention of these programs will provide opportunities for players to develop strong work ethic and confidence in a competitive environment

Health
Pickleball is beneficial to the health and quality of life for all ages, ability levels and is a sport that can be played for a lifetime.

Frequent and continued Pickleball play can:

  • Increase aerobic capacities which will lower resting heart rate and blood pressure

  • Improve balance, agility and reaction time

  • Increase bone density, improve muscle tone, strength, flexibility

  • Improves metabolic function, burns calories and lowers body fat

  • Help maintain better mental health by improving mood and ward off depression

  • Build confidence and self esteem

Economic Gains
In the past 2 decades the Washoe Valley area has seen a tremendous growth in housing, business and
industry without
an increase in development of indoor permanent public Pickleball facilities.  As the fastest growing sport for both beginners and competitors, there is a strong opportunity to provide a tournament venue for the Pickleball associations in the Reno area.

Adding this amenity would:

  • Draw destination travel and tourism

  • Attract companies and help with employee recruitment

  • Benefit families who move to the area and are looking for recreation/fitness programs

  • Allow growth in racket sports – Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America for the last 6 years and not slowing in popularity. The Nevada Indoor Pickleball facility would encourage new and experienced players alike to become avid players, bringing more money and attention to these sports.

  • Pickleball players from surrounding areas (Truckee/Incline/Carson city) will commute regularly to play, adding revenue to Reno in shopping, dining and lodging

By supporting the cause to build the Nevada Indoor Pickleball facility we can provide an indoor, year round, public facility to the Reno area. More people playing Pickleball will bring economic growth, improvement of health and wellness, and support the needs of our educational institutions.
